Independent living activities at AIM are designed to promote independence and develop the confidence students need to live more independently as they start transitioning from school to adulthood. A wide range of skills are taught and practiced such as cooking, home living, budgeting/financial literacy, personal hygiene and self care, navigating transportation, recreation and leisure, self advocacy, social skills, and more.
An essential component to our Independent Living concentration is Lunch Management (LM). LM is a weekly class that provides students with the opportunity to explore grocery shopping resources available to them in the Twin Cities’ Metro. In LM, students learn and practice skills for healthy meal planning on a budget, as well as meal preparation and cooking. Student’s weekly LM purchases are utilized for the preparation and consumption of their daily lunch.
