Employment

AIM programming encompasses a variety of employment-related activities including work readiness classes and on and off-site work experiences.

Work readiness classes assist students with practicing pre-employment skills and exploring their individualized vocational interests. Students may participate in activities such as work site tours, guest speakers, resume completion, mock job interviews and career assessments/inventories. Our work readiness classes also incorporate direct instruction of the “soft skills” of the workplace which can be challenging for neurodiverse/autistic individuals to navigate.

In addition to hands-on activities in their skills class, students also participate in real-world work experiences off campus. Most of these experiences are voluntary, however from time to time a paid partnership with a work site is established. Off-site work partnerships can vary from year to year, we strive to offer students a variety of sites to practice their work skills.

Students also participate in onsite work experiences at the AIM campus. Curricular on-site work availability can change from year to year. Some examples of onsite work could include entrepreneurial tasks, retail services, car repair, culinary, pet care, etc.
